Knoxville Zoo

We went to the zoon on Sunday. It was a bit hot and most of the animals were pretty lazy and snoozed in the shade.

One of the chimps had a baby about a month ago and it seems the new baby boy was of interest to even the zoo keepers. The pictures are not that good because the chimps were behind thick glass with a really horrible glare. I post-processed heavily to try to salvage them.

The baby was born about 1 month ago, in mid-July. They are not sure of the exact date because she had the baby sometime after they left for the night and came back the next day. Apparently, the chimps are not telling.

Here is one of the baby by himself. Like I said, not a great picture, but you get the idea. For a while it was fun to watch the baby and mom's interaction. The chimp is learning to crawl and momma laid down on her stomach and was face to face with baby for a while, giving him some encouragement. Unfortunately, no images of that.

And one more image. These guys did not mind the heat too much. Can you figure out what it is. It should not be too hard, but you might want to let your kids have a guess.

Here is another. Surely you can tell with this one.

OK, OK. Were you right?

Sure - I know a rhino when I see one. My chimp photos right out of Africa had to be taken through chain link fence - also a challenge. I agree - it is fun to watch them. Your photo of the baby alone - sweet.
