Nick's football season ended last week. His team finished 10-0 and won the county championship. I am proud of him and his team. He showed real commitment, giving it his best effort during every practice and game. He went from being a complete novice to playing nearly every play in every game. He scored about 8 touchdowns and made plenty of big tackles on defense.
We are going to have a big celebration for his team next weekend. It should be a great conclusion to a fantastic season. Football took a lot of our time. We practiced 2 or 3 times a week and then played 1 or 2 games on top of that. They also played in a pre-season tournament.
Nick primarily played running back on offense and defensive end on the other side of the ball. Even at this young age, he had a play book and had to memorize every play. He did a great job and I can proudly and accurately boast that he was one of the better prepared players on the team.
On to some of my favorite pictures from the season.
Here is one from the championship game. He carried the ball well this day, but did not get into the end zone.
Making a key tackle behind the line of scrimmage.
Breaking out
Sometimes, it took most of the team to bring him down
Here, he broke a few tackles and went for about 50+ yards for the touch down. Unfortunately, it was the team's only score of the day. This was not a league game, but rather a bowl game against a team 2 levels higher than his team's.
Another tackle for a loss
I think this was his first career rushing touchdown.
A little chest-bump celebration to celebrate the score.
One of our biggest fans
One last action shot. Nick was clearly fouled, but refs missed it. It was all I could do to not run on the field and show the refs what they missed. Later, Nick would say he did not even recall the facemasking.
Here are the champions.

Ah, Nick, 8 going on 18??? Please tell him his aunt is proud of him but so glad tackle football is over for the season!
Let's hear it for the champions, and Nick's best fan pictured below is getting prettier by the day. I share my Mom's fear of football being a sport where you can get hurt, so I'm glad it's over for the season too! Joanne
Congrats Sarah and Nick on your fall sports season! Thank your Mom and Dad for taking you to all of those practices and games. Believe it or not, it is hard work!
